Please pray for Harrison Butker; he would do well to take some advice from Tom Petty right now

Well, I won’t back downNo I won’t back downYou could stand me up at the gates of HellBut I won’t back down
No I’ll stand my groundWon’t be turned aroundAnd I’ll keep this world from draggin’ me downGonna stand my groundAnd I won’t back down
Hey babyThere ain’t no easy way out (I won’t back down)Hey I will stand my groundAnd I won’t back down
Well, I know what’s rightI got just one lifeIn a world that keeps on pushin’ me aroundBut I’ll stand my groundAnd I won’t back down
Hey babyThere ain’t no easy way out (I won’t back down)Hey I will stand my ground (I won’t back down)And I won’t back down
Hey I won’t back down

  1. Let’s pray specifically that he doesn’t follow every other celebrity (Drew Brees, for example) and issue a fearful and wussy apology. I have decent hopes he won’t.
    God bless Mr. Butker.

  2. Hmmmmm. A Catholic man gives a speech containing Catholic ideas at a private Catholic college and people are upset about it?
Replace the word Catholic with any other religion in the above sentence and you wouldn’t even know it occurred. This is a clear representation of the attack against Catholicism and persecution of Catholics occurring regularly these days.
The good news is that the devil only goes after his opponents. And he attacks the staunchest ones with the most ferocity.
Take heart in knowing that we are on the right side.

  3. The last thing he posted on Twitter was a quote from “St.” Josemaria Escriva…Opus Dei. Hopefully he’s not OD.

  4. I’ll preface my two cents worth by freely acknowledging that it’s easy for me to talk from the sidelines when it’s not me, my family or my career in the firing line but –

I can’t imagine that HB didn’t have a reasonable idea of what the reaction to his speech would be and that he is therefore spiritually prepared for whatever the shrieking nihilists and the legions of the lukewarm throw at him. I hope he stands firm and keeps channelling the essence of this G.K.Chesterton quote:

‘Christianity did not conceive of Christian virtues as tame, timid and respectable but rather as vast, defiant and even destructive, scorning the yoke of this world, dwelling in the desert and seeking their meat from God.’

Speaking personally, I’ve had enough timid respectability to last two lifetimes. High time for vast defiance to make a storming comeback and bigly.
