“When there is no one to support the cause of true religion, we ought alone and all unaided to do our duty.”

UPDATE 0936 MST: Today being Tuesday, we pray the Sorrowful Mysteries, the third of which is the Crowning with Thorns. Fruit of the mystery: Moral Courage. It literally takes 0.0000001% moral courage to recognize and determine with moral certainty that Bergoglio is not pope. Popular opinion is not the arbiter of truth, Bishop Schneider. Also, saying that Benedict can’t be pope because Bergoglio is pope is not an argument; it’s Begging the Question. You should know better.

If you have any public role in the Church at all, even if a blog or podcast, please keep Luke 14:26-27 in front of you as you read what follows. Wolves are endangering souls. -NVP

Today is the Feast of Saint Basil the Great, Bishop, Confessor, and Doctor of the Church. As a Doctor, his teachings are part of the Magisterium. Isn’t that cool? We should take notice.

BTW, I highly recommend the new Benedictus monthly missal. It’s a great companion to your 1962 missal, with daily meditations which are excellent. Its $5 per month. https://praybenedictus.com/

    1. I love my subscription, especially as I am no longer near a TLM. It makes a great gift for confirmation aged youngsters who find a Missal a little large to handle.
If they would include the endings to prayers somewhere in the front, it would be perfect.

  1. TOO LITTLE TOO LATE. YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE THAT A LOOOOOONG TIME AGO. EVER SINCE 1958. “THE WICKED TRIUMPH BECAUSE GOOD MEN DO NOTHING TO STOP THEM FROM THE BEGINNING”… YOU CATHOLICS ARE A BUNCH OF LIP SERVICE AND NO ACTION. YOU CAN’T EVEN RESCUE BENEDICT XVI FROM HIS HOUSE ARREST “IMPRISONNER” RIGHT NOW.
DO YOU THINK BENEDICT XVI JUST WOKE UP IN ONE MORNING AND DECIDE TO RESIGN???!!!!! YOU STUPID CATHOLICS ARE GUILTY AS HELL. YOU DID NOT SAFEGUARD YOUR OWN CHURCH, PROTECT YOUR CHURCH FROM THE FREEMASONS/LUCIFERIANS/COMMUNISTS OF THE CABALS-NWO. AND NOW YOU WILL LOSE YOUR OWN COUNTRY TOO. MARK MY WORD.

      1. If you Catholics heeded the Fatima Message, all of these problems would never come to pass. Get some brains and begin to get inline. To be a Catholic is to be a Soldier for Christ. Do you understand “Church Militant” meaning? I am sick of the arrogant stupidity of your generation.

          1. I have been doing “about it” even before your mother was born. You scumbags pseudo “cafeteria katholics” are the main reason why the church is falling.

      2. Which generation would that be? Are you trying to set a record for blind assumptions?
I know things are bad out there, but try not to lose your mind. It does nobody any good, especially the people close to you.

      1. Why the presumption we are all doing nothing?
If the devil Is attacking the Church, don’t you think there will be significant casualties and loss? He’s no dummy.
I can’t speak for anyone else, but as for me, I am doing a lot more than nothing – and I am rewarded with the title “pseudo-Catholic” by Purple. Thanks for that. And so … as Mark said … what are YOU doing about it?
Purple has been “doing “about it” even before your mother was born.” And yet … here we are.

      2. Aqua- You can’t tell us with a straight face that the changes in the church have been met with any meaningful collective pushback. This is an observable fact, and as such, stands on its own regardless of whether I’ve personally thrown a Pachamama in the Tiber. Or whatever.
But to answer your question, I have done nothing. Absolutely nothing*. And if during my pathetic life God has condescended to work through me to advance the Kingdom of Heaven one inch, that glory belongs to Him alone.
Plus why on earth are you offended at being called a pseudo-Catholic by some stranger on the internet with a color name?? And not even one of the primary colors! 😉
God knows your heart! I mean that, in all seriousness.
*(ok ok, maybe I signed a lifesite petition once. you got me.)

      3. Fivethousandi – I doubt you’ve done “nothing”. I think you’re selling yourself short. Obviously, you know your own situation and conscience, but the fact you’re even here, commenting as you do, and not over at “Where Peter Is” and commenting as they do implies to me you have more going on to help solve the crisis than “nothing”.
My wife has been reading about Padre Pio. He is her favorite Saint. He didn’t do anything for the Church – from a strategic perspective. He “was consumed by a desire to suffer for the transgressions of mankind”. He received the Stigmata. He sometimes had confessions for 19 hours in a day. He could see into penitents’ souls. He was largely invisible … from a strategic, church governance and power perspective. Like Saint John Vianney, he was faithful in his own calling and loved God supremely, far above all things.
We are all cells in the Body of Christ. We each have our roles. The measure of our worth, is not how much we do or how big of an impact, what mark we leave on the Church. The measure is what do we do with the “Talents” we’ve been given to invest (Matt 25:14-30). And as I said, I highly doubt you are the type to bury yours in the dirt.
We will not save the Church by filling the role of Bishop and calling for a new Conclave, or declaring powerful Ecclesiastics heretics. We are not Bishops.
I for one have chosen to expend my life, talent and treasure – whatever remains – for six children I adopted late in life (eight total). I have chosen to relocate to a community near two SSPX Parishes in which I can lead my family to heaven in the embrace of Tradition. We pray together as a family every day. We catechize every day. We deal with special needs every day. We provide stability and structure and love them all through which they learn to grow and achieve that for which God created them. We support orphans financially. We have been very active in the adoption community facilitating adoptions of orphans. I am prepared to spend myself in every possible way for the sake of all those in my life God calls me to care for in Charity.
I suggest everyone here on this blog, most within the “Trad community”, have similar stories to tell. Mine is not unique. It is just not recognized for what it is: *normal Catholic life*.

  2. We can’t put our hope in Schneider, Vigano, Burke or any of the other “good guys.” The evidence is and has been in front of them, but unlike St. Basil, St. Nicholas, St. Francis of Assisi, etc., these prelates have chosen the path of effeminacy. Are they afraid of losing their positions and finding themselves homeless? Does the antichurch have dirt on them? I don’t know but they’re acting like a bunch of republican politicians under assault from the democrats. And that is NOT an admirable trait.
Do what You have to do, dear Lord. You are the only hope we have.

  3. I believe Schneider to be a holy man who is fatally misled on the most important issue of the day: who’s in charge (on earth). Mark and Purple are correct that parishioners and priests need to grow a couple and right this ship. We can’t know the battle plan behind the scenes, but if we can’t see the evil residing in the Vatican now, we are part of it. Pray, but speak out, act!

  4. Honest question: What are some examples of ways to act? “Grow a pair” is expressed in what way? How do we “right this ship”? Specifically – how do I help to “rescue Benedict from house arrest”? Does he even want to be rescued, because I’m not completely sure in that point.
I regularly see these comments that we “Trads” are lacking in the “stones” department. Speaking from personal experience, I’m not really sure what else I can do, that I’m not already doing or have done … which, when I stop and think about it, is significant. And I’m pretty sure I’m not unique in that regard.
So … do we really have to beat ourselves up like this? Maybe we just need to hold the line, grab some courage and encourage each other, and keep doing what we’re already doing. Maybe we’re just fine. I think to do well in a conflict, we have to enjoy the fight, for the sake of the right, and with all of our might, turn our face to the light (yeah … I’m a poet and I know it).

    1. First Saturdays of reparation, daily 15 decades of Rosary, prayer and supplication, Sunday Traditional Latin Mass at my SSPX mission chapel, frequent confession. I’m doing my best….

      1. Cynthia Moulthrop: Yes. Perfect. Thanks be to God! I’m not doing that, but have done and am doing similar.
I just think it would be good to hi-light and/or remember how much good we are actually doing – each of us in our own ways. I think it is far more than we know.
There is a temptation to despair, which takes many forms. I think every little thing we do for God is loved by God and makes a difference; is making a difference. It may be far better than Media, Catholic Media and various bloggers suggest. It’s a struggle that will likely continue beyond my lifespan, but we ARE making a difference. I know, I am at least giving something approaching my best.
