Unconstitutional Patriot Act coming home to roost in a city near you

This will not end well. And it’s not just Portland. Don’t be dulled by a lull in the action in your neck of the woods. The entire country is a powder keg, just waiting for the next big thing. Stay frosty.

President Trump is deploying 100 federal agents to Chicago to help combat rising rates of some crimes – a move that marks an expansion of the White House’s intervention into local law enforcement as Trump continues to position himself as the “law and order” president.

The “surge” of agents announced on Wednesday to Chicago and other American cities is part of Operation Legend – named after 4-year-old LeGend Taliferro, who was fatally shot while sleeping in a Kansas City apartment late last month – and comes as federal law enforcement officers have already descended on Portland, Ore. and Kansas City, Mo.

“The effort to shut down police in their own communities has led to a shocking explosion of shootings, killing, violence, murders,” Trump said during a speech in the White House’s East Room. “This rampage of violence shocks the conscience of our nation and we will not stand by and watch it happen.”

While sending federal agents to aid local law enforcement is not unprecedented – Attorney General Bill Barr announced a similar surge effort in December for seven cities that had seen spiking violence – the type of federal agent being sent, and some of their tactics, have raised concerns among state and local lawmakers.

Usually, the Justice Department sends agents under its own umbrella, like agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives or the Drug Enforcement Administration. But this surge effort will include Department of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) officers, who generally conduct drug trafficking and child exploitation investigations.

A number of lawmakers from New York to Portland have spoken out against the Trump administration sending the agents to their cities, especially following reports that unidentified federal agents detained protesters in Portland and took them away in unmarked vehicles. Portland has been hit with near-daily demonstrations against police brutality and systemic racism since the death of George Floyd while in Minneapolis police custody on May 25.

Local authorities also have complained the surges have only exacerbated tensions, and criminal justice experts say the efforts defy explanation because of the unprecedented moment America is living through — with a pandemic, historic unemployment and a mass reckoning over racism and how people of color are treated by police.

  1. So the executive branch which enforces the law, is enforcing the law. He’s going after attacks on federal property. Why is this a bad thing? If Trump was Catholic would it be a good thing? How long do we have to let our cities burn?

    Explain.

    1. A. The law is clearly unconstitutional.

      B. There is no scenario where this ends well for Trump. It’s Kent State 2020.

      C. I’m not a Nevertrumper. I voted for him. I’m allowed to recognize blunders, of which are many and increasing.

  2. What would you propose he do at this point?

There are innocent people being hurt, robbed, killed. Property is being destroyed.

Officials from governors to mayors are helping to foment revolution. And it is revolution. It will engulf us all if not stopped.

President Trump is dealing with the unprecedented covid hoax, with the UniParty in D.C., our enemy China and its domestic helpers, and now with insurrection.

That said, the Patriot Act was and is a terrible thing.

    1. I would propose he let them burn it all to the ground, and make them own it. Make the citizenry beg for his help. Then send in Fed troops at the begging.

Proactive deployment of Fed LEOs plays to the wrong narrative.

      1. I think we don’t have much choice, short of civil war, but to let Portland burn their stuff to the ground. Just not “our stuff”.

An attack on the Federal Courthouse is an attack on America itself. That’s not just Federal property, that represents the rule of law. That doesn’t belong to Portland. That’s America.

I personally like the approach, so far. Let it go, to a point, then hit them hard and set up a perimeter. But only on behalf of Federal property, not a takeover of a City or State. I do believe in subsidiarity, which is enshrined in the Constitution (“… reserved to the States or to the people”).

Those buildings do not belong to Portland (etc). It is not tolerable for America to let the mob burn their core institutions and harm those inside.

Portland is burning and it will continue to burn. Quote a contrast to see force applied and victories won within the sea of barbarians.

  3. Double down on our prayers for Trump’s conversion. I’ve enrolled him in the St. Joseph’s Confraternity at my Church. Mass offered Wednesday’s at noon for him.

  4. As part of the Insurgency Act the government may quell not-so-peaceful protests. Also, as in the case of Portland, when government property is at risk, federal agents have the right to go in. Not sure which side you’re on here, but the Catholic Church is absolutely on the side of law and order. This is not government overreach, but a President who is fighting Marxist agitators.

  5. Several weeks ago when we were under siege by antifa and blm here in Philly, I wrote to Trump via whitehouse dot gov and asked him to declare martial law. I still think that needs to happen. Things have gotten bad — fast. A lot of people in the cities under siege don’t have the means to pack up and move so they’re literally being held hostage by the anarchists and their submissive bitches in the city governments. Ultimately, we’re going to need Divine Intervention and the Triumph of the Immaculate Heart but in the meanwhile… I think it’s time for the liberal democracies to end and for us accelerate our prayers for the restoration or the establishment of (Catholic) absolute monarchies. Democracy and socialism are the fruits of freemasonry. I will leave it at that.

    1. I’m putting the election above the needs of local skirmishes, for now. I know that’s easy for me to say, not living near the local skirmishes. But the need for a win in November is critical, and why Trump needs to wake up to the bigger picture. CoronaFauci being front and center.

  6. It’s almost a no-win situation, with the traitorous media negatively exacerbating every action he takes or does not take. It is astonishing to see the international lineup of enemies against this one man. Their hatred is truly demonic. Perhaps a strategic withdrawal would be better. After the destruction and death they’ll blame Trump anyway. It should never have come to this. These groups, BLM, Antifa, etc., should have been monitored and their funding put under a microscope. Perhaps this was attempted. With all the enemies within our government, perhaps we’ll never know. The lines are becoming clearer every day. The sad part is to see where most if not all, of our Bishops are. May God have Mercy on us.
