The Lavender Legacy Continues: Leo XIV Endorses Fiducia Supplicans

By Chris Jackson

Well, that didn’t take long.

Not even two months after the white smoke, and already the Vatican’s top doctrinal officer has made it crystal clear: the controversial Fiducia Supplicans, Francis’s infamous 2023 document that legitimized blessings for same-sex couples, will “absolutely” remain in force under Leo XIV.

So much for reform.

The Lavender Curtain Doesn’t Close

Cardinal Víctor Manuel Fernández, still head of the Dicastery for the Doctrine of the Faith, told Il Messaggero’s Franca Giansoldati:

“The Declaration will remain… Fiducia Supplicans will absolutely not fall into oblivion.”

Not “revised.”

Not “reconsidered.”

Not “suspended pending further synodal reflection.”

Nope. Just reaffirmed, defended, and permanently installed.

This follows Fiducia Supplicans’s literal text, which opens the door to “blessing couples in irregular situations and same-sex couples” under the guise of “non-liturgical” gestures. As if wrapping modernist rebellion in the language of nuance somehow justifies the theological rot.

Austen Ivereigh boasted the same on X:

“The blessings of gay people in relationships… will remain.”

Rich Raho added,

“Received in audience just 2 days ago by Pope Leo, DDF Prefect Cardinal Fernandez forcefully says Fiducia Supplicans ‘will remain’…”

So let’s be honest: Fiducia has not just survived the Francis era, it is being institutionalized under Leo. That means any traditionalist pundit, bishop, or blogger still claiming we’ve entered a new era of “reform” is either naive or willfully blind.

Trad Inc. Did a 24-Hour Pivot and Now We See Why

When Leo XIV was elected, many Trad Inc. voices, who just days earlier warned about Fernandez, LGBTQ blessings, and Francis’s doctrinal chaos, suddenly pivoted to a hopeful, even glowing tone.

“Maybe this is our Benedict XVII!”

“Let’s give him time.”

“His voice is so pastoral!”

That sudden shift wasn’t based on any doctrinal clarification or papal repentance. It was based on papal aesthetics, low expectations, and above all, a desperate hunger for permission to cling to Rome no matter how corrupted it becomes.

They told us Leo might rein in the synodal madness. That he would at least walk back Fiducia Supplicans. That he wouldn’t double down on Francis’s worst excesses.

Wrong on every count.

Trad Inc. sold you a fairytale. And they did it fast, within hours of Leo’s election, because they didn’t want to be caught on the wrong side of papal access, TLM favors, or Vatican press credentials.

Fernandez: Still in Power, Still in Charge

This whole debacle proves something more disturbing: Fernández is still the gatekeeper of doctrine. The man who ghostwrote Amoris Laetitia, shoved Traditionis Custodes down our throats, and gave us Fiducia Supplicans: he’s still calling the shots under Leo.

“Absolutely not,” he said, when asked if Fiducia might fade away.

That’s a full-throated affirmation of Francis’s theological revolution.

And remember, Leo could have fired him.

So far he hasn’t.

Final Thoughts: The Real Continuity

They said Leo would restore continuity with tradition.

They were right, but not in the way they meant.

This is continuity with Vatican II. Continuity with Amoris. Continuity with Traditionis Custodes. Continuity with Pachamama. Continuity with rainbow stoles on rainbow altars and the deconstruction of Catholic moral theology in real time.

It’s the continuity of apostasy.

Let’s be blunt: Fiducia Supplicans is no longer a temporary anomaly, but the new normal in the conciliar church. And Leo XIV has just signed off on it.

You were warned.

You were mocked for saying it.

And now you’re watching it unfold.

So what will Trad Inc. say now?

Will they issue a correction?

Will they admit they were wrong?

Don’t hold your breath.

  1. You cling to the Roman Catholic Church at all costs. You don’t have to and should not cling to an antipope. Which is what Leo is. And that is still baded on the actions of Benedict XVI. Until everything Francis did is condemned and reversed this will continue. But when we needed strong cardinals like Burke and Sarah they chose silence. The truth works hard when it is given the chance

    1. A failed Catholic convert here.

I’ve notice the fatal flaw in most Catholics in that they cannot recognize any other form of authority than the Pope, the Vatican, and the power that flows from it.

I ask: from whence does their authority come from? Currently, Vatican II. Is Vatican II faithful to the traditions, doctrines, and commands that trace back to Jesus Christ himself? Of course not.

Therefore: I declare that it is safe for Catholics to abandon Rome and its claims of authority as the entire leadership has abandoned their faith and obligations. The new untouchable authority must be adherence to the Council of Trent. It is already secured in History and cannot be toyed with, as Vatican II can and is. The idea that a local church or priest is illegitimate if he is not in good standing with Rome is absurd. A higher and transcendental standard exists and all we have to do is declare it. If the Sheeple can’t let go of their idols, then let them go. I’d be OK if the Roman Catholic Church collapsed to 10% of its current size. Give me a small fighting CRUSADER Catholic Church that has a hard core over the bloated and soft mess that it is today.

Forget proselytizing in the 3rd World. Let them seek out Christ or return to their native deities. The Roman Catholic Church needs to first cleanse itself. Then go on an unrelenting CRUSADE to clean out its native base: Western Europe i.e. from Italy to Ireland. It won’t be peaceful, pretty, loving, or democratic. Hallelujah.

  2. nvp,
I think he’s 100% correct in the few articles I’ve read. Is “Chris Jackson” a pseudonym? I can’t find anything on him. Of course, I don’t *do* social media. 😁
    Thanks!

    1. I don’t know him personally, but he did write for Remnant for years under that same name.

      1. Hi Mark,

I’ve followed your work with interest over the years, especially your rigorous critique of the events surrounding the 2013 conclave and the Benedict resignation. I know you’ve collaborated with Anne Barnhardt and share the position that Francis is an antipope. I’m reaching out in good faith with a doctrinal issue I haven’t seen adequately addressed by those who hold that position, namely, the doctrine of Universal Peaceful Acceptance (UPA).

This isn’t some theological side note. John of St. Thomas (d. 1644), in line with the Church’s tradition, taught that peaceful and universal acceptance by the Church of a pope is a sign of divine approval that cures all possible defects in the election — even if the man elected was not truly eligible. Here’s how he puts it:

“The acceptance of the universal Church heals in the root all defects… This is the judgment of the Church, which the Lord has commanded to be followed and which is directed by the special assistance of the Holy Ghost, which he would not permit to fall into such an error.” — Cursus Theologicus, vol. 8, p. 316

This doctrine was not only theological but received doctrinal status by later theologians and canonists:

        Wernz-Vidal (Jus Canonicum, 1905):

“The peaceful and universal acceptance of a legitimately elected Pope is an infallible sign of his legitimate election.”

        Van Noort (Dogmatic Theology, 1957):

“The Church’s peaceful acceptance of a man as pope is an infallible sign of the legitimacy of his papacy.”

This means that once Francis was universally accepted as pope by the Church, including by Benedict XVI himself, his legitimacy became a theological certainty, not just a matter of prudential judgment. The Church could not be in error on something so central, so visible, and so essential to her constitution.

If this doctrine is true and it’s been taught consistently by trusted and approved theologians, then the “Benedict never validly resigned” theory or “the conclave was rigged” theory becomes moot. Whatever happened behind the scenes in 2013, the universal acceptance of Francis has cured it.

I’m not writing this to attack you, but to invite a serious answer:
What do you do with the doctrine of Universal Peaceful Acceptance?

Anne Barnhardt has been sent these citations multiple times and has not replied. Given your reputation for engaging difficult questions, I’d sincerely appreciate your thoughts.

        Regards,
        Erik

  3. Tucho has friends in the censorship department. It’s OK to mildly counsel him but, a red-blooded rebuke that Pope Pius X would salute gets instantly erased.
