“Pray as if everything depended on God, and work as if everything depended on you”

Today is the Feast of Saint Ignatius of Loyola. I wish I had known him better when I was muddling through a ruined Jesuit institution back in the 80s. Perhaps I would have been even more confrontational with my apostate professors. Or is it better that I just graduated in ignorance? Happy feast, everyone! -nvp

“Go forth and set the world aflame”

“Teach me to be generous, teach me to serve you as you deserve, to give without counting the cost, to fight without fear of being wounded, to work without seeking rest, to labor without expecting any reward but the knowledge that I am doing your most holy will”

“To conquer himself is the greatest victory that man can gain”

“We must speak to God as a friend speaks to his friend, servant to his master; now asking some favor, now acknowledging our faults, and communicating to Him all that concerns us, our thoughts, our fears, our projects, our desires, and in all things seeking His counsel”

“Take, Lord, and receive all my liberty, my memory, my understanding and my whole will. All that I am and all that I possess, you have given me. I surrender it all to you to be disposed of according to your will. Give me only your love and your grace; with these I will be rich enough, and will desire nothing more.”

  1. My personal hero – thank you for those wonderful quotes, Mark!
Dear St. Ignatius, pray for us and for Holy Mother Church.

P.S. I saw a meme with St. Ignatius which said, “You insult the Blessed Mother? I almost killed a man for that!”
Couldn’t figure out how to copy and paste, lol.

  2. My son’s birthday and his patron saint. When he was born, I wept, “Oh God, NO, he can’t be a Jesuit!!!!” Turned out all his favorite books when he was a kid were written by Jesuits when they were still Catholic. LOL Chose St Ignatius as his Confirmation Saint. He’s been battling an illness for 3 years and convalescing with his buddy- suffering all the while at an AWFUL Jesuit university as he has no other options. (So many layers that it is difficult to see God’s hand in any of it.) The university was given MILLIONS for a new chapel that was officially consecrated for the feast day. I don’t know that it could be any more HIDEOUS. Freakishly modernist and completely undignified. Sorry I can’t post the FB pics. St Ignatius, pray for us! Lord, have mercy on us and deliver us!
