There is a mysterious line from Our Lady of Akita which continuously haunts me. If what happened in Akita, Japan is a genuine apparition, then the Mother of God said the following: “The only arms [weapons] which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by My Son.” I believe that means the Rosary and the Sign of the Cross with be the best (and possibly only) prayer weapons during a certain dark time of Church history which would probably come upon man in the 21st century.
Many Catholics believe Akita is the rosetta stone to understanding Fatima. If true, the Mother of God appeared to a deaf nun named Sr. Agnes Sasagawa for several apparitions and locutions (yes, miraculous since she was deaf.) On the 13th of October 1973 (the same year abortion was legalized in the USA and only a few years after the end of Vatican II) Sr. Agnes claims Mary said the following to her:
“The work of the devil will infiltrate even into the Church in such a way that one will see cardinals opposing cardinals, bishops against bishops. The priests who venerate me will be scorned and opposed by their confreres… churches and altars sacked; the Church will be full of those who accept compromises and the demon will press many priests and consecrated souls to leave the service of the Lord.”
Many people believe this is upon us with the current scandals in the Church reaching fever-pitch as never before. But right before that warning, Sr. Agnes said Our Lady warned even more specifically:
“As I told you, if men do not repent and better themselves, the Father will inflict a terrible punishment on all humanity. It will be a punishment greater than the deluge, such as one will never seen before. Fire will fall from the sky and will wipe out a great part of humanity, the good as well as the bad, sparing neither priests nor faithful. The survivors will find themselves so desolate that they will envy the dead. The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by My Son. Each day recite the prayers of the Rosary. With the Rosary, pray for the Pope, the bishops and priests.”
Could this mean nuclear war? Could this mean most Catholics would be left without the sacraments? It seems to say that the only prayer for many Catholics will become the Rosary and the Sign of the Cross. That seems to imply either a loss of civilization or valid sacraments or both.
But perhaps the message is not to depress us so much as to prepare us. It is great to go to weekly confession, but we must be spiritually prepared to not need it. It is great to go to daily Mass, but we may have to become spiritually prepared to not even have weekly Mass. (I’m not saying I want any of these things, of course, but it appears such a punishment could be upon us if Akita is a valid apparition.)
If such is the case, then we shouldn’t mope about but rather we must maintain great courage and hope that the Rosary itself will then bring down the necessary graces for perseverance in this time of Church history. This is because it seems to me that never in any Marian apparition in 2,000 years have we ever heard a warning like this: “The only arms which will remain for you will be the Rosary and the Sign left by My Son.”
I assume that is the sign of the cross, so we should get good at that too. And by “good,” I mean slow, not fast.
Akita transliterated to Portuguese, Aqui’tá, means, ‘Here it is’ or ‘It is here’.
More precisely, ‘Here He/She/It is.’
Conceive immaculately.
Communicate cleanly.
Comport yourself positively. (Carry your Cross).
Both the Germans and the Japanese had asked for terms of surrender.

I don’t think she’s talking about the sign of the cross.
I think what the Blessed Mother is referring to is the permanent sign that will be left on earth after the prophesied miracles take place. I’m a firm believer that the Garabandal apparitions were authentic. The miracle spoken of at those apparitions includes a permanent sign left in the village of Garabandal as a reminder of Gods presence.
This, like Fr. David Nix’s usual fare, is absolutely on point.

Essentially Fr. Nix is saying that we put our IMMORTAL SOULS IN JEAPORDY every time we POST ABOUT CATHOLICISM ON SOCIAL MEDIA!!!1!!1 Because it’s the Public Forum and if we’re mistaken in the Public Forum we have to repent PUBLICLY and we CAN’T so that means if we’re WRONG ONCE we’re DAMNED because we CAN’T REPENT RIGHT!!!1!
Sorry for the flanderization, but this drives me up the wall more than a bit. I am sure my own biases are driving my response.
May I suggest to Fr. Nix:
1) there is a difference between material heresy and formal heresy, even public; and
2) God has a _very good_ appreciation of our practical limits as human beings; and
3) We HAVE to testify in the public forum, to the best of our ability, to the Truth, especially the Truth of God, even if – as unlettered laynothings – we don’t know nearly enough about the subject matter in question; and
4) this is PARTICULARLY true since the people who are supposed to be doing this as their vocation, generally speaking, AREN’T doing it in an orthodox fashion (unlike Fr. Nix. He’s great, even if I think he’s wrong on this particular occasion); and
5) If we do surrender the field as Fr. Nix suggests, we are going to be in the position of the man who buried his talent. And Our Lord, not Fr. Nix, told us that we WOULD be condemned to Hell for doing that.
/rant over, TLDR even if Fr. Nix doesn’t publicly recant what appears to me, to be what by his own standards would CONDEMN HIM TO HELL FOREVER!!!1! I don’t think that’s a problem, because DOING SOMETHING is commanded, while sitting with your mouth closed and your hands and head up your fourth point of contact is what God condemns.
And Fr. Nix is out there Doing Something and doing his best to be orthodox. Material Heresy /= Formal Heresy. Being Mistaken is not a crime unless you fail to correct the mistake.
I have no idea now where I read this, but I thought ‘the sign left by my Son’ referred to a cross visible in the darkened sky with rays of light coming through the places where His hands and feet were nailed. Twenty five years ago I used to read all these things. Now I just focus on living the message of Our Lady of Fatima and passing it on.
The last apparitions to be fully approved by the Church are Beauraing and Banneux, both in French Belgium, both of which continue the Marian themes starting with Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal in Paris, La Salette, Lourdes, Pontmain, and Fatima. I highly recommend the excellent book This Woman Shall Conquer by Don Sharkey, with a nihil obstat and inprimatur, given on January 24, 1952.
If Akita is true, then the language that Father Nix quotes is clearly apocalyptic, like the secrets of La Salette, partly literal and partly spiritual. The punishment cannot be literally worse than the deluge because only Noah and his family survived the deluge. If Akita is genuine, then the “fire from heaven” probably is to be taken in a spiritual sense. This “fire from heaven” probably is the Bergoglian antipapacy and the errors of Vatican II. Spiritually, this is worse than a physical fire coming down from heaven. We have never had a non-Catholic pretending to be pope. We can all see how the Bergoglian antipapacy has been destroying the world. This is the greatest attack on the Church in history.
The Bible seems to speak of this too. After the abomination of desolation—which I take to be the fake mass with no real presence, so it is idolatry—the great tribulation begins (and the minor tribulation ends?) and the cross appears in the sky and God gathers the elect—the 144,000 end-times apostles who preach in the days of antichrist, full of false signs and wonders.
Thats what scriptures seems to be saying, though I am not saying it definitely does.
