Finally I gotta throw this in. Charlie was MAGA/Trump, and millions of his supporters connected with Charlie on that basis. Charlie devoted his life first to Jesus & reaching lost people, second to his family. Coming in as a strong third, he devoted himself to anti-Establishment conservative causes and in 2024, to Trump’s re-election.
A certain subset of conservative Catholics can’t stand it and have cognitive dissonance from their own feelings of admiration for Charlie. How do they handle it? I’m think of Father Z’s article here, where the CD really comes through.
Father Z & others tell themselves almost-fairy-tales of how Charlie was “evolving” (maybe), Charlie surely would have becomes Catholic like Erika Kirk (maybe-hopefully), and Charlie in his “evolution” surely would have come to be quite like themselves (unlikely), or if he didn’t then Teh Joooz hijacked Charlie or something.
It’s weird. And it’s all the tackier because it denies who Charlie was in his worldly life.

My wife, who has intentionally kept her head in the sand about everything politics for as long as I’ve known her, watched Erika Kirk’s speech of her own volition, then spent 90min last night telling me about her redpill moment.
God is moving. God is removing the scales from our eyes and teaching us the lessons of creation that have been hidden for 100+ years. God isn’t interested in the cheap grace of smoothing it all over. He’s making us learn these lessons through experience, and giving us the grace to persist in putting His world back in order.
This is way beyond politics, which is why people are reacting with depth. These matters are foundational… good vs evil.
MAGA is full of Christian Zionists and Jewish Zionists. It is Likud, USA. The idea that there is a revival now because now MAGA/Israel has even more control over TPUSA is at break with reality.
Maybe Erika Kirk sees dollar signs, maybe she was threatened herself, but no person of God would allow Trump to hijack the entire narrative and mourning of the assassination and Kirk.

The overblown chivalry of asking every day, “How can I be a better husband?” impressed my father in law so much he talked about it for a week.
