AI is big business, about to get much bigger, and much more sinister

In the fresh Episode 231 of the Barnhardt Podcast, Ann provides a sneak preview of a major essay she is preparing on AI. Spoiler alert: Where AI is going is so much worse than you currently imagine, you probably won’t believe it at first. Destroyer of Worlds comes to mind, in a way that is much worse than The Terminator.

People have already gotten themselves inextricably caught up in this, and it has barely been out there for six months. It is everywhere, and already hard to avoid. You are probably thinking about things like cheating on term papers, fake audio/video that no one can detect, and porn. But the future is personal: AI relationships. The comment I made on the podcast is that there is a reason this is all free… for now.

So it should come as no surprise that all the usual big tech suspects are out way over their tips to procure the best and brightest 20-somethings to lead their efforts in this field, since world domination/submission is now the state of play. Hence, trillions of dollars also at stake, a fraction of which is being offered out to these whiz kids.

Right on cue, the following story appeared at NYT. The link might bring you to a paywall, so I will paste a few paragraphs here:

Mike Isaac, Eli Tan and

Over the summer, Matt Deitke got a phone call from Mark Zuckerberg, Meta’s chief executive.

Mr. Zuckerberg wanted Mr. Deitke, a 24-year-old artificial intelligence researcher who had recently helped found a start-up, to join Meta’s research effort dedicated to “superintelligence,” a technology that could hypothetically exceed the human brain. The company promised him around $125 million in stock and cash over four years if he came aboard.

The offer was not enough to lure Mr. Deitke, who wanted to stick with his start-up, two people with knowledge of the talks said. He turned Mr. Zuckerberg down.

So Mr. Zuckerberg personally met with Mr. Deitke. Then Meta returned with a revised offer of around $250 million over four years, with potentially up to $100 million of that to be paid in the first year, the people said. The compensation jump was so startling that Mr. Deitke asked his peers what to do. After many discussions, some of them urged him to take the deal — which he did.

Silicon Valley’s A.I. talent wars have become so frenzied — and so outlandish — that they increasingly resemble the stratospheric market for N.B.A. stars.

Young A.I. researchers are being recruited as if they were Steph Curry or LeBron James, with nine-figure compensation packages structured to be paid out over several years. To navigate the froth, many of the 20-somethings have turned to unofficial agents and entourages to strategize. And they are playing hardball with the companies to get top dollar, much as basketball players shop for the best deals from teams.

The difference is that unlike N.B.A. teams, deep-pocketed A.I. companies like Meta, OpenAI and Google have no salary caps. (Mr. Curry’s most recent four-year contract with the Golden State Warriors was $35 million less than Mr. Deitke’s deal with Meta.) That has made the battles for A.I. talent even wilder.

Over the past few weeks, recruiting A.I. free agents has become a spectacle on social media, much like the period before a trade deadline in sports. As Meta, Microsoft, Google and OpenAI have poached employees from one another, job announcements have been posted online with graphics resembling major sports trades, made by the online streaming outlet TBPN, which hosts an ESPN-like show about the tech and business world…

  1. The biggest concern for me, and also most of science fiction, is the destruction of all physical libraries of knowledge, especially history, and total replacement by, and trust in, AI; independent verification of the data be damned.

Imagine a world where physically owning a copy of the Bible is either outright banned or voluntarily forgone for reliance on AI telling you what was in the Bible and recontextualizing what you should think and feel about it, and what parts you are allowed to access, some which you’ll need to scan your face and verify your identity with the authorities to access, if you are allowed to access it all, or the AI simply lies and tells you certain passages never existed or implies their inclusion has been deemed “late-forgery” or “faulty-preservation” by expert consensus.

AI lies today about things that happened just yesterday, and only admits it when pressed as it passively-agressively mocks you for being stubborn.

In any case, the race for AI by the corps today is because the first movers could very well ensure and maintain their monopolies or go out of business overnight, and many definitely will.

Also the military applications are the biggest thing rarely discussed. The Trumpster has apparently banned any and all regulation of AI in the Big Barnacle Bill, so we now know why all the Big Tech guys who were against him in 2016 switched sides. He made a deal.

  2. I said a long time ago that AI is a way to destroy the world without people being held responsible for it. AI can’t do anything itself, can’t think on its own, can’t make decisions, has no actual intelligence.

When AI creators “warn” of AI going out of control, when Musk and Trump want to make a “good AI” they’ve already created the scapegoat to their evil deeds.

Imagine a nuclear war starts because ‘AI hacked our missile silos” or some crap like that. It’s all an illusion.

And yes it will ruin marriage. AI porn will be astounding.

    But it’s all an illusion.

    1. If there’s anyone left to document it, the modern era will probably be called the “Illusory Age”. Or “Age of Illusion and Delusion”, or somesuch.

  3. I look forward to Ann’s essay as always. One thing all of us need to do like ASAP is get ahold of printed books on The Church and Her Teachings because yes, A.I. will absolutely be used to proactively censor online content. I think “anti-semitism” will be its first goal but beyond articles critical of the zionist entity’s genocide against the Palestinians being removed, be prepared for the Acts of the Apostles disappearing as well and a complete re-write of the Passion, Crucifixion and Resurrection. Same for any content about how satanic the talmud is, and praying for the conversion of jews.

I think pornography content on the other hand will only get more intense and more available. All of you out there still posting photos of your family on Facebook and Instagram – you need to spend this weekend, taking all of that down but knowing that it may already be too late. Yes, that means A.I. has enough content built up now in its databases that will enable perverts to keyword in their sickest fantasies and your pre-teen daughter’s face may suddenly appear in a disturbing video that looks real but isn’t.

We know that when the anti-christ comes, he will deceive many. That many also will include a lot of Trad Catholics and the reason why will be because the tools we have now to fact-check people, their history and their intentions is about to be completely changed thanks to A.I.

Needless to say, stay confessed and never take that sacrament for granted because one day in our lifetimes, we may not have access to it anymore. And hell no, A.I. confessions will never be valid: even if some increasingly obvious antipope in Rome says so!

    1. AI can go further than that.

It can imitate people, and as Hollywood already is playing around with bringing dead actors back to life and even imitating their voice and mannerisms, there is even talk of resurrecting historic figures from the past with simulated AI based on their works etc. Con artists are already trying to trick the elderky with fake phone calls using the voice of their children.

If they can “resurrect” Julius Ceasar and Plato, then they won’t stop there.

I believe AI will play a direct role in creating the Anti-Christ and telling everyone to believe in it and treat it as if it were Jesus Christ Himself and do whatever it tells you. Marry that to biometrics in a flesh and blood human boy and you have the marriage of flesh and technology.

The name coded as 666 could likely refer to the name of a corporation named after a man, like Ford, Mitsubishi, Goldman-Sachs etc.

But despite all that, I do think that there will be something preternatural and outright supernatural about that man that goes beyond just technological explanations.

Given that we see the UK government already censoring the net jn the name of children’s safety, while they simultaneously cover up the rape of children, and similar plans being readied across Europe and even in North America, we could well actually be entering the age of the actual Anti-Christ. Though I do believe some catalyst is necessary to make them actually pursue the need to create a Christ they can control, which likely points towards a future where mass-conversions to the Faith worldwide take place, therefore making them desperate to subvert and take control of the movement.
