“The unnatural vice [sodomy] is the greatest of all sins after the sin of unbelief.” -St. Thomas Aquinas

“Every sexual intercourse [sodomy] that cannot lead to conception is opposed to man’s nature.” – St. Thomas Aquinas

“Since by the unnatural vices man
transgresses that which has been determined by nature with regard to the use of venereal actions, it follows that in this matter this sin is gravest of all.” – St. Thomas Aquinas

The sin against nature [Sodomy] debases man lower than even his animal nature.” -St. Thomas Aquinas

“Since by the unnatural vices man
transgresses that which has been
determined by nature with regard to the use of venereal actions, it follows that in this matter this sin is gravest of all.”
– St. Thomas Aquinas

“Sodomy pollutes the flesh, extinguishes the light of the mind, expels the Holy Spirit from the temple of the human heart.”
⁃ St. Peter Damian

“And what more should I say since it [sodomy] expels the whole host of the virtues from the chamber of the human heart and introduces every barbarous vice as if the bolts of the doors were pulled out.”
– St. Peter Damian

-St. Peter Damian

“This plague [Sodomy] undermines the foundation of faith, weakens the strength of hope, destroys the bond of charity; it takes away justice, subverts fortitude, banishes temperance, blunts the keenness of prudence.” – St. Peter Damian

“The miserable flesh [of the sodomites] burns with the heat of lust; the cold mind trembles with the rancor of suspicion; and in the heart of the miserable man chaos boils like Tartarus [Hell].
– St. Peter Damian

“As the Sacred Scripture says, the Sodomites were wicked and exceedingly sinful.”
-Saint Peter Canisius

“Those unashamed of violating divine and natural law are slaves of sodomy never sufficiently execrated depravity.” –

– St. Bernardine

“No sin in the world grips the soul as the accursed sodomy; this sin has always been detested by all those who live according to God.”
– St. Bernardine

All sodomites, men and women, died all over the earth, as Saint Jerome said commenting on the verse Lux orta est iusto [The light was born for the just] (Ps 96:11). This was to make it clear that He [Jesus Christ] was born to reform nature and to promote chastity.
St. Bonaventure, Sermon 21 – In Nativitate Domini

– St. John Chrysostom

“The sins of Sodom are abominable
and deserve punishment whenever and wherever they are committed”
– St. Augustine

“Those offences which be contrary to nature are everywhere and at all times to be held in detestation and punished; such were those of the Sodomites, which should all nations commit, they should all be held guilty of the same crime by the divine law.” -St. Augustine

“Sodomy offends God and provokes His wrath.”
– Pope St. Pius V (In his papal bull Horrendum illud scelus)

“Like the blind and stupid, homosexuals do not recognize the disease and misery in which they find themselves. This not only causes Me nausea, but displeases even the demons themselves, whom these miserable creatures have chosen as their lords.”
– St. Catherine

It is disagreeable to the demons, not because evil displeases them and they find pleasure in good, but because their nature is angelic and thus is repulsed upon seeing such an enormous sin being committed.
It is true that it is the demon who hits the sinner with the poisoned arrow of lust, but when a man carries out such a sinful act, the demon leaves.” -St. Catherine of Siena

“They [homosexual acts] are born from an ardent frenzy; they are disgustingly foul; those who become addicted to them are seldom freed from that vice; they are as contagious as disease, passing quickly from one person to another.”
– St. Albert the Great

– St. Gregory the Great

“And Sodom and Gomorrah might have appeased [God’s wrath], had they been willing to repent, and through the aid of fasting gain for themselves tears of repentance.” – St. Jerome

And Romans 1:26-32.
**Please**, as a mother of a man living this lifestyle, when you read these comments from the saints **pray for these men**! I’m so tired of the macho reaction of using slurs and personal insults, reactions copied by too many “Christian” women. Pray!! These men need your prayers desperately. And remember that the prevalence of this sin is evidence of how bad the world is right now overall, not just in the lives of homosexuals. God gave our society up to this sin because of a lack of faith in general. We are told this directly in Scripture. Faith is not shown in insults but in prayerful trust in God to remove this reproach of our society and give us all a true and living faith. May we never forget, and always live by, Our Lady’s warning that poor sinners go to hell not because no one insults them out of their sin but because they have no one to pray for them. If we insult rather than pray, we will have much to answer for ourselves at the end of our lives.

This sounds like today. And women are NEVER to blame when they abort their babies. It’s always someone else fault. Did you consider that people get PC fatigue and lash out?
You have one point- St. Thomas points out -sexual acts that proclude procreation are sodomy not just SS acts.
And since what I wrote above was abrupt – We do pray for all sinners at the Rosary. All sinners have moms that are hopefully weeping for their sinful children instead making excuses for them. Or worse encouraging them. I have my own sinful relatives.
I hear you, but sometimes the macho reaction is called for, though insults are not necessary, as the simple truth more than sufficient for the purpose.

Am I reading this correctly? I’ve read the quote before and thought all the sodomites died at the birth of Our Lord (or maybe even at the Incarnation)?
Where does this come from? Is there any historical evidence of sudden mass deaths of homosexuals during the time of Augustus Caesar’s taxation census?
Idk. I simply remember reading this quote a few years ago and it made sense to me, since even the fallen angels are repulsed by it.
Suzanne: Thanks for a very edifying (for me at least) reminder. I will “up” my game, praying for these men (AND women). Many from solid families. It IS a reproach of our entire culture. Per Aquinas, it would appear that deliberate contraception has rendered almost all sex in the culture “gay sex.” Count on my prayers for your son.
Does this mean that all heterosexual foreplay is sodomy
No, not unless it involves sodomitical acts.
I am glad to see the “macho” quotes here. They are not insults. They are the truth. If more people were aware of the grave danger of sodomy, they would avoid it or be moved to repent. Pretending as if it’s okay or meritorious is very evil.
Part of the problem is that we are hypersensitive about insulting or offending humans and not so worried about offending God. It’s true charity to admonish sinners. If it hurts or angers them, those bad feelings may lead them to a change of heart, although the intent would never be just to make someone feel bad for the sake of cruelty or worse, to cause despair. Repentance is the message. God will forgive if a sinner turns from the sin. We need to emphasize the great joy in heaven upon repentance of a sinner!! Think of how happy the guardian angel of such a sinner would be should the sinner drop the evil habits and do penance! Think of how such a sinner would be flooded with graces!
Real cruelty would be to lie and smooth over the evil of sodomy. But if people are committing sins such as sodomy, the first step to repentance is awareness of their sin. I pray that more people’s eyes are opened, especially young people so that they avoid such evils.
