Ad Repellendas Tempestates

Collect: A domo tua, quǽsumus, Dómine, spiritales nequítiæ, repellantur: et aërearum discédat malígnitas tempestatum. Per Dóminum. We beseech Thee, O Lord, that all wickedness being driven away from Thy house, the fury of the raging tempest may pass away. Through our Lord.

This prayer can be traced to St. Anthony of Padua:

Make the sign of the cross on the + symbol.

Jesus Christ a King of Glory has come in Peace. + God became man, + and the Word was made Flesh. + Christ was born of a virgin. + Christ suffered. + Christ was crucified. + Christ died. + Christ rose from the dead. + Christ ascended into Heaven. + Christ conquers. + Christ reigns. + Christ orders. + May Christ protect us from all storms and lightning. + Christ went through their midst in Peace, + and the Word was made Flesh. + Christ is with us with Mary. + Flee you enemy spirits because the Lion of the Generation of Juda, the Root of David, was won. + Holy God! + Holy Powerful God ! + Holy Immortal God! + Have mercy on us. Amen!

This prayer comes from the Roman Ritual prayer book:

V. From lightning strikes, hail, and violent storms.
R. Deliver us, O Lord Jesus Christ.

V. Show us, O Lord, Thy mercy.
R. And grant us Thy salvation.

V. O Lord, hear my prayer.
R. And let my cry come unto Thee.

V. The Lord be with you.
R. And with thy spirit.

Let us pray. We beseech Thee, O Almighty God, through the intercession of Holy Mary, the Mother of God, of the holy angels, patriarchs, prophets, apostles, martyrs, confessors, virgins, widows, and of all Thy saints, that Thou show us Thy continuing protection, permit tranquil winds, and also pour out to us, Thy unworthy servants, Thy safety from heaven above against lightning strikes and violent storms, and that Thou remain always protective of the human race and crush down the aerial powers by the right hand of Thy power. Through the same Christ our Lord.

R. Amen

  1. Thank you for the prayer! I am in the direct path of Hurricane Milton along with other members of our FSSP parish. The way it is tracking now Sarasota/Venice/Bradenton will get the full brunt of this Hurricane. Please pray for us. 🙏

  2. To Avert Storms & Spiritual Wickedness:

ADOMO tua, quæsumus, Dómine, spiritáles nequítiæ repelántur : et aëreátum discédat malígnitas tempestátum. Per Christum Dóminum nostrum. Amen.
    (ex M. R.)

WE beseech Thee, O Lord, that all spiritual wickedness may be driven away from Thy
house, and that the fury of the storms may pass away. Through Christ our Lord. Amen.

    Suggestio :

    5x Credo ; Salve – Pater – Ave (3x) – Gloria

Litany of the Most Precious Blood would also be a very good idea.

  3. Now would be a very good time, in very ded, to invest in a Purple Scapular and, irrespective, recite daily & often the associated prayer:

O Crux ave! Spes unica; Jesus, vanquisher of death, save us.

The miracles reported and ascribed to this gift from heaven in the face of ‘natural’ disasters abound.

  4. Fatima is interesting because it mentions the hands of both God and man, in afflicting mankind with disasters.

Having said that: Yes, the government can gin up hurricanes when it wants to, through various technologies that have been under discussion & research papers for decades now.

So I’m not about to blame Milton or Helene, on God. I mean, we do have a government of sociopaths that would – if they could – and, perhaps they can.

That’s how I read it. “You do you”
