“Eternally at enmity with the evil serpent, and most completely triumphed over him, and thus crushed his head with her immaculate foot.”

Ineffabilis Deus: The Immaculate Conception

Originally posted on

Today is December 8th, Feast of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

“It was wholly fitting that so wonderful a mother should be ever resplendent with the glory of most sublime holiness and so completely free from all taint of original sin that she would triumph utterly over the ancient serpent. To her did the Father will to give his only-begotten Son — the Son whom, equal to the Father and begotten by him, the Father loves from his heart — and to give this Son in such a way that he would be the one and the same common Son of God the Father and of the Blessed Virgin Mary. It was she whom the Son himself chose to make his Mother and it was from her that the Holy Spirit willed and brought it about that he should be conceived and born from whom he himself proceeds.”

The Glorious and Immaculate Virgin Mary was already more holy at the moment of her conception, as a mere zygote, than all the saints at the end of their earthly journey. Preserved from Original Sin by the retroactive application of the redemptive act of Calvary, she was “full of grace” from the very beginning, and would remain so unto her Assumption.

“Concerning the most Blessed Virgin Mary, Mother of God, ancient indeed is that devotion of the faithful based on the belief that her soul, in the first instant of its creation and in the first instant of the soul’s infusion into the body, was, by a special grace and privilege of God, in view of the merits of Jesus Christ, her Son and the Redeemer of the human race, preserved free from all stain of original sin. And in this sense have the faithful ever solemnized and celebrated the Feast of the Conception.”

It is a great and terrible mystery that for all mankind since the fall, save for Mary, that our natures are wounded. When you were conceived, your first instant of life as a unique human being was marred by the transmission of Original Sin from our first parents, later remedied at your Baptism. Yet concupiscence never leaves us, and we remain wretched in plodding toward our reward. Not so for Mary, and she is always there to help us. She wants you to fly to her, so she can dispense the graces you need.

“When the Fathers and writers of the Church meditated on the fact that the most Blessed Virgin was, in the name and by order of God himself, proclaimed full of grace by the Angel Gabriel when he announced her most sublime dignity of Mother of God, they thought that this singular and solemn salutation, never heard before, showed that the Mother of God is the seat of all divine graces and is adorned with all gifts of the Holy Spirit. To them Mary is an almost infinite treasury, an inexhaustible abyss of these gifts, to such an extent that she was never subject to the curse and was, together with her Son, the only partaker of perpetual benediction. Hence she was worthy to hear Elizabeth, inspired by the Holy Spirit, exclaim: “Blessed are you among women, and blessed is the fruit of your womb.””

What does “full of grace” mean? It means FULL… no room for anything else. How could it be otherwise? Could the almighty and eternal God reside inside a stained vessel? Well, He could have done anything He wanted, but would it have been proper? Or does it make more sense, perfect sense, that He should have preferred His Mother… our Mother… to be Immaculate? Certainly we would never question his power to make it so.

“Just as Christ, the Mediator between God and man, assumed human nature, blotted the handwriting of the decree that stood against us, and fastened it triumphantly to the cross, so the most holy Virgin, united with him by a most intimate and indissoluble bond, was, with him and through him, eternally at enmity with the evil serpent, and most completely triumphed over him, and thus crushed his head with her immaculate foot.”

The Blessed Virgin Mary was to have such a unique bond with God, in both the natural and supernatural sense, that she could have no relation whatsoever with the serpent; he would be powerless against her from the very beginning and for all time. The Holy Ghost, infused in her soul at the first moment of her life, would later overshadow her to conceive the Second Person of the Trinity. She cooperated with the divine will by conforming her own free will to His; “Behold the handmaid of the Lord, be it done to me according to thy word.” In this way we know her also as Co-Redemptrix, as she gave life to the Redeemer and participated intimately in His life, Passion, and death. Her subordinate role in all of this in no way diminishes her glory.

“The Virgin Mother of God would not be conceived by Anna before grace would bear its fruits; it was proper that she be conceived as the first-born, by whom “the first-born of every creature” would be conceived. They testified, too, that the flesh of the Virgin, although derived from Adam, did not contract the stains of Adam, and that on this account the most Blessed Virgin was the tabernacle created by God himself and formed by the Holy Spirit, truly a work in royal purple, adorned and woven with gold, which that new Beseleel[26] made. They affirmed that the same Virgin is, and is deservedly, the first and especial work of God, escaping the fiery arrows the the evil one; that she is beautiful by nature and entirely free from all stain; that at her Immaculate Conception she came into the world all radiant like the dawn. For it was certainly not fitting that this vessel of election should be wounded by the common injuries, since she, differing so much from the others, had only nature in common with them, not sin. In fact, it was quite fitting that, as the Only-Begotten has a Father in heaven, whom the Seraphim extol as thrice holy, so he should have a Mother on earth who would never be without the splendor of holiness.”

Immaculate Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen.

A Conference Seeking the Truth about the “Two Popes”

On February 11, 2013, two tremendous bolts of lightening struck the Dome of St. Peter’s Basilica, directly above the Tomb of the Apostle–the same day Pope Benedict announced his stunning Declaratio! Stranger still, in the Vatican, for the next decade, two men wore the signature white cassock, two men bestowed their own personal Apostolic Blessings on the faithful and two men were formally addressed as “His Holiness.” One resided in seclusion and self-imposed silence, in prayer and meditation at the Mater Ecclesiae Monastery in the Vatican Gardens. The other still resides in the Domus Sanctae Marthae, the Vatican hotel, which was built to house visiting cardinals. (Curiously, the Papal Apartments located in the Apostolic Palace since the 17th Century remain uninhabited.) The unexpected renunciation of Benedict and his perplexing presence in the Vatican as “Pope Emeritus” still confounds Catholics as much as–in some sense, even more than–the globalism and heterodoxy of the putative pope, Francis.

Now that the new “Synodal” Church is being foisted upon us, it’s time to seek the truth about the “two Popes.” It’s time for the silent majority to speak out. As conference speaker, His Excellency Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano has prophetically intoned:

Among the titles of the Roman Pontiff recurs, along with
Christi Vicarius, that of Servus servorum Dei [“Servant of the
servants of God”]. While the former has been disdainfully
rejected by Bergoglio, his choice to retain the latter sounds
like a provocation, as evidenced by his words and deeds.
The day will come when the Presuli of the Church will be
asked to clarify what intrigues and what conspiracies could
have led to the Throne him who acts as “Servant of Satan’s
servants,” and why they have fearfully witnessed his
intemperances or made themselves accomplices of this
proud heretical tyrant. Let those who know and who keep
silent out of false prudence tremble: by their silence they do
not protect the honor of the Holy Church, nor do they
preserve the simple ones from scandal. On the contrary,
they plunge the Bride of the Lamb into ignominy and
humiliation, and turn the faithful away from the Ark of
salvation at the very moment of the Flood.

Various speakers at “Is the Pope Catholic?” Conference will consider the possibility of 1) the invalidity of Pope Benedict’s resignation, or 2) the invalidity of Bergoglio’s acceptance of the Papacy, or 3) Bergoglio’s loss of office due to public material (if not formal) heresy.

Code of Canon Law of the Catholic Church, Canon 748 §1. “All persons are bound to seek the truth in those things which regard God and his Church…are bound by the obligation…of embracing and observing the truth which they have come to know.”

Fr. Franz Wernz and Fr. Pedro Vidal’s Ius Canonicum, an eight-volume work published in 1943, which is perhaps the most highly respected commentary on the 1917 Code of Canon Law, states:

“Finally they cannot be numbered among the schismatics, who refuse to obey the Roman Pontiff because they consider his person to be suspect or doubtfully elected on account of rumors in circulation.”

St. Peter Chrysologus on the Incarnation: “In choosing to be born for us, God chose to be known by us”

Sermon 5 of St. Peter Chrysologus (5th Century)

In choosing to be born for us, God chose to be known by us

In the mystery of our Lord’s incarnation there were clear indications of his eternal Godhead. Yet the great events we celebrate today disclose and reveal in different ways the fact that God himself took a human body. Mortal man, enshrouded always in darkness, must not be left in ignorance, and so be deprived of what he can understand and retain only by grace.

In choosing to be born for us, God chose to be known by us.  He therefore reveals himself in this way, in order that this great sacrament of his love may not be an occasion for us of great misunderstanding.

Today the Magi find, crying in a manger, the one they have followed as he shone in the sky. Today the Magi see clearly, in swaddling clothes, the one they have long awaited as he lay hidden among the stars.

Today the Magi gaze in deep wonder at what they see: heaven on earth, earth in heaven, man in God, God in man, one whom the whole universe cannot contain now enclosed in a tiny body. As they look, they believe and do not question, as their symbolic gifts bear witness: incense for God, gold for a king, myrrh for one who is to die.

So the Gentiles, who were the last, become the first: the faith of the Magi is the first fruits of the belief of the Gentiles.

Today Christ enters the Jordan to wash away the sin of the world. John himself testifies that this is why he has come: Behold the Lamb of God, behold him who takes away the sins of the world. Today a servant lays his hand on the Lord, a man lays his hand on God, John lays his hand on Christ, not to forgive but to receive forgiveness.

Today, as the psalmists prophesied: The voice of the Lord is heard above the waters. What does the voice say? This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

Today the Holy Spirit hovers over the waters in the likeness of a dove. A dove announced to Noah that the flood had disappeared from the earth; so now a dove is to reveal that the world’s shipwreck is at an end for ever. The sign is no longer an olive-shoot of the old stock: instead, the Spirit pours out on Christ’s head the full richness of a new anointing by the Father, to fulfill what the psalmist had prophesied: Therefore God, your God, has anointed you with the oil of gladness above your fellows.

Today Christ works the first of his signs from heaven by turning water into wine. But water [mixed with wine] has still to be changed into the sacrament of his blood, so that Christ may offer spiritual drink from the chalice of his body, to fulfill the psalmist’s prophecy: How excellent is my chalice, warming my spirit.

Get ready, cuz here He comes: “None of them that wait on Thee shall be confounded”

Blessed Advent to everyone, and happy new year! What are your new year resolutions? I hope your first is making a commitment to sainthood. Won’t you join me? He wants you to use this time to draw closer to Him.

Root out those things standing in your way. Learn to truly detest your sins. Come up with a plan to avoid the things/people/places/situations that put you in near occasion of sin. Engage in spiritual warfare, most especially with the Holy Rosary and the Prayer to St. Michael. The former is essential for embracing your suffering, in order to begin the Via Crucis that is the stairway to Heaven. The latter is particularly effective in times of acute temptation.

Make time for an extra fifteen minutes of quiet prayer this Advent. Contemplate His coming both at Christmas and in the last days, His coming with His infinite Mercy but also His infinite Justice. As we are admonished in today’s Epistle, WAKE UP, and act accordingly.

“If I am not becoming a saint, I am doing nothing.”

This First Sunday of Advent or the Fourth before Christmas, is the first day of the Liturgical Year. The Mass prepares us this day for the double coming (adventus) of mercy and justice. That is why St. Paul tells us, in the Epistle, to cast off sin in order that, being ready for the coming of Christ as our Saviour, we may also be ready for His coming as our Judge, of which we learn in the Gospel. Let us prepare ourselves, by pious aspirations and by the reformation of our life, for this twofold coming. Jesus our Lord will reward those who yearn for Him and await Him: “Those who trust in Him shall not be confounded.”

INTROIT Ps. 24. 1-3
To Thee, O Lord, have I lifted up my soul: in Thee, O my God, I put my trust; let me not be ashamed. Neither let my enemies laugh at me: for none of them that wait on Thee shall be confounded. Ps. 24:4 Show, O Lord, Thy ways to me, and teach me Thy paths.
Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.

COLLECT
Arise in Thy strength, we beseech Thee, O Lord, and come: from the dangers which threaten us because of our sins, be Thy presence our sure defense, be Thy deliverance our safety for evermore. Who livest and reignest, with God the Father, in the unity of the Holy Ghost, God, world without end. Amen.

According to Fr. Gabriele Amorth (d. 2016), the late Chief Exorcist
of the Diocese of Rome,
Fr. Amorth: “One day Padre Pio said to me very
sorrowfully: ‘You know, Gabriele? It is Satan who has been
introduced into the bosom of the Church and within a very
short time will come to rule a false Church.’”
Zavala: “Oh my God! Some kind of Antichrist! When did
he prophesy this to you?”

person and thus automatically lose his office if the contradiction to
the revelation and the dogmatic teaching of the church is
evident.”
