The Mercedarians keep this feast as a double of the first class, with a vigil, privileged octave, and proper Office under the title: “Solemnitas Descensionis B. Mariæ V.de Mercede”. Our Lady of Ransom is the principal patron of Barcelona; the proper Office was extended to Barcelona (1868) and to all Spain (second class, 1883). Sicily, which had suffered so much from the Saracens, took up the old date of the feast (Sunday nearest to 1 Aug.) by permission of the Congregation of Rites, 31 Aug., 1805 (double major), Apparition of Our Lady to St. Peter Nolasco in the choir of Barcelona, on the Sunday after 24 Sept. In England the devotion to Our Lady of Ransom was revived in modern times to obtain the rescue of England as Our Lady’s Dowry.”

Failed Zero Covid Policy Cost Australia Nearly A$1T
The danger in the post-lockdown era is that in our rush to move on we forget the hard lessons that have been learned about this catastrophic public policy failure.
On the basis of alarmist modelling, often commissioned by governments and amplified by sensationalist media, panicked politicians discarded all basic ideas about proportionality and the rule of law to criminalise everyday life and exert unprecedented controls over the citizenry.
From the beginning of the pandemic in March 2020, all Australian governments adopted the attitude that any public health mitigation measure was on the table, and little to no consideration was given to the costs of the measures that were adopted.
This is the subject of new research published by the Institute of Public Affairs, which for the first time in Australia calculates many of the costs of the nation’s Covid zealotry up to June 2022. In the report, Hard Lessons: Reckoning the Humanitarian, Economic, and Social Costs of Zero-Covid, we find that the total economic and fiscal cost of the Australian COVID-19 response was no less than A$938.4 billion (£550.6 billion) to June 2022. This report identifies:
- $595.8 billion in state and federal Government to enforce Covid policies and stimulate the economy;
- $259.8 billion in lost economic activity because of the restrictions and economic shutdowns;
- $82.8 billion in inflation related costs due to expansive monetary and fiscal policies, a cost which is set to only increase more and more over the next couple of years.
The research also calculates how much children suffered in terms of schooling. Despite being the safest cohort in society when it comes to COVID-19, children were routinely sent home to learn remotely or not learn at all. We estimate children in the state of Victoria would have lost about 12 weeks of reading skills and 17 weeks of numeracy skills, something which for many will never be recovered.
Even on the most basic metric, lockdowns failed. In terms of the number of years of life, the costs of joblessness because of the initial nationwide lockdowns in March and April 2020 were about 31 times more costly than the maximum possible years of life saved by lockdowns throughout 2020 and 2021.
Even in the state of Victoria, whose Labor Government enthusiastically established a world-renowned Covid police state, politicians are no longer touting their pandemic response in the lead up to the state election in November.
Likewise, the former federal Liberal/Nationals Coalition Government, which was voted out of office earlier this year, rarely boasted of its Covid response.
Governments of the Covid era appear to have accepted the failure of the Covid-elimination approach, but rather than confront the reality of this failure are just pretending that it never happened.
This is not about living in the past, because the reality is we are still bearing the costs now. In terms of the resulting mental health crisis, lost learning, shuttered businesses, Government debt and inflation, we are not likely to know the full costs of the Covid response for many years to come…

Putin’s Gauntlet
Putin gave a speech and the media is all a-twitter over it.
“To those who allow themselves such statements regarding Russia, I want to remind you that our country also has various means of destruction, and for separate components and more modern than those of NATO countries, and when the territorial integrity of our country is threatened, to protect Russia and our people, we will certainly use all the means at our disposal,” Putin said in a Wednesday address.
“It’s not a bluff,” he added.
Do recall that Russia is not the USSR. Unlike Stalin there are now constraints that are in fact quite-democratic; in fact Putin is constrained by the Duma, which must pass laws to enable his acts and power. We may well disagree with the determinations of the legislature there just as we might with regard to Mexico, Canada or France but what’s unmistakable is that said power is in fact delegated, not predicated on dictatorship or monarchy.
In other words Putin is not Hitler, nor is he Stalin. He might, however, be somewhat akin to Xi.
There are referenda being taken in one and part of a second province of eastern Ukraine as I write this. These are areas of the nation that historically, before Ukraine was “spun off”, were Russian. The people there identify as Russian and the land shares a border with Russia. In the case of Crimea it was literally purchased by Russia long before the USSR (an “agglomeration” of lands) existed.
I have, as you might expect, plenty of questions about the legitimacy of said polling; is it truly free in that it expresses the will of the people in these parts of the nation? I don’t know the answer to that but what I do know is that if the people of a land have the right of self-determination when it comes to their government that extends, with certainty, to them choosing to ally themselves with a government that happens to be immediately-adjacent on one of the sides of the land in question.
That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, –That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness.
Therefore the limits of said inquiry are whether the referendum was in fact representative — that is, is it fraudulent or was it freely taken among the people of said land? That’s the beginning and end of it, and if it was freely taken and results in said people choosing to be Russian in terms of their legal identity then the expelled government is in fact an unlawful occupier unless they immediately and peacefully depart…

Today is the Feast of St. Eustace, or Eustachius, if you will. He is patron saint of hunters and also against family discord. I chose the photo above because of the nifty hunting motif on the frieze. And because it is one of my favorite memories, having visited Amboise with my wife and two of my daughters in 2014. As an aside, the chapel above contains the tomb of Leonardo da Vinci.
St. Eustace was martyred in A.D. 118 under Emperor Hadrian. He was a Roman general who converted after seeing the sign of the Cross over the antlers of a deer he was hunting. Kind of like this:
Now, Jaegermeister was not yet invented, so St. Eustace didn’t get any ideas from subliminal messaging, nor was he drunk. Instead, like Constantine, he saw the sign of the Son of God and knew he had. He gave Christ his grateful allegiance. All it cost him at first was the loss of his estates, and separation from his family at grievous cost.
Gotta love the pagans, you know. Because later, when he was useful to them, the Roman empire brought him back as a general and he led its troops to victory in battle. He was given back his rank and unexpectedly reunited with his family.
But, just like their modern counterparts in the NWO, once he served his purpose to them the pagans demanded he sacrifice to the deathvaxx and mother earth idols. He refused, loyal to the King of Kings.
Therefore, he and his reunited family were thrown to wild animals. The animals refused to eat them, so the emperor ordered the whole family to be put into a brazen bull to die in agony. They died, but the flames did not burn them up. Thus ended the earthly lives of these great early martyrs.
Maybe you’ll think of St. Eustace and companions when you are forced to down a shot of Jaegermeister at a friend’s house. Maybe you will face nothing more unpleasant in your life than that, but if you do it may be fitting training.
I submit this great saint’s example, timely as the Church’s examples always are, for your meditation today, pondering the trials and martyrdom which will likely await many of us. Pray for God’s strength, for we have none. And pray for the intercession of St. Eustace, who intercedes for us in Heaven.

New documentary on Jan. 6 alleges egregious crimes by police, including murder, entrapment
Experts analyzed exclusive footage apparently uncovering multiple violent crimes by police, which likely precipitated the deaths of four Trump supporters in an effort to evoke a response, provide a pretense to make many arrests, and destroy the MAGA movement once and for all.

Investigative reporter Joshua Philipp interviewed veteran journalist Joseph M. Hanneman, who has focused on this issue for several months.
“There was plenty of police provocation,” explained Hanneman, including the indiscriminate firing of munitions into the unassuming crowd that not only provoked dismay and anger (video, warning: profanity), but likely lead to two cardiac events and deaths of two individuals in the crowd.
“The initial use of explosive munitions that day started at about 1:25 in the afternoon,” Hanneman continued. “The police launched explosives into the crowd which was pretty much just viewing there and standing [on the lawn].”
Some of the explosives contained “hard plastic pellets that rained down, and some had tear gas in them” that caused injuries evoking dismay and tremendous anger among the peaceful protestors who “largely support law and order” as expressed in the slogan “back the blue.” In addition, this large rally crowd consisted of individuals from all walks of life, including many older people, women and children who were also being fired upon.
To provide a professional assessment of police behaviors on that day, The Epoch Times interviewed Stan Kephart, a former police chief and security director of the 1984 Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. Philipp described Kephart as “one of the nation’s top experts on police use of force and one of the top-rated expert witnesses in court cases on crowd control.” With 42 years of law enforcement experience, serving in various leadership roles in California, Arizona and Missouri, Kephart “has testified more than 350 times in federal, state and tribal court.”
Kephart classified this conduct by the police as “egregious,” and a “supervisory failure.” The individual in charge “should have put those people in posted positions or in a skirmish line or in a defense posture between the objective that they were protecting and the crowd. That wasn’t being done.”
Instead, “that was a shooting gallery up there, a congregation of officers … who were using these munitions to inflict harm and injury on people below them. It’s egregious…”

This was Tucker Carlson’s intro a few days ago. Robbery at gunpoint in broad daylight in a decent area of Chicago. Really? But that’s no problem. Even if they bother to go after the thugs it’s “catch and release” for them. Not so for the January sixers. Imprison them, hound them until they commit suicide, make them examples for anyone who refuses to bend the knee to woke socialism. Wake up, folks. They’re hiring those 87,000, i.e., EIGHTY-SEVEN THOUSAND! armed IRS agents to go after YOU.
The Epoch Times documentary about what happened at the Capitol protest on January 6th. It’s available free until September 30th. We’ve all been lied to in order to advance the narrative of domestic terrorism and move toward a controlled police state where dissent against the regime is not tolerated. Anyone who fails to support the Left’s agenda has no civil rights and deserves imprisonment for “thoughtcrime” or for misdemeanor offenses. The mainstream media is saying that more and more as they accuse protesters who caused less damage and no loss of life of being the “greatest threat to our democracy,” while Antifa and BLM rioters who killed and injured thousands as well as committed billions in damage and looting to our cities go scot free.
If there was ever evidence of police brutality, it happened on January 6th. “It was a police mob attacking a mob,” according to a police tactics expert in the video. He describes the many crimes committed by the police that day.
Were the Capitol and D.C. police instructed to be as violent as possible to the crowd to escalate the confrontation and justify accusations of insurrection? There are multiple examples of violent tactics used by police on January 6th to deliberately cause harm. They seemed to enrage the crowd deliberately. Victoria White was beaten to a pulp while she offered no resistance or violence to police. The only people who died that day were Trump supporters, two of whom were murdered, Ashli Babbitt and Roseanne Boyland. Think about that — women being attacked by mostly male policemen, although Boyland was beaten by a black policewoman. Was the officer disciplined for engaging in a violent attack on an already unconscious woman on the ground? Nope! It’s okay to be a racist black cop who beats up a white conservative. Think of it. That police woman was rewarded for her violence just like all the Antifa/BLM rioters were. No consequences, just high fives from the administration and the media. You’re a hero! Kill another MAGA terrorist!
And consider the black officer who shot Ashli Babbitt. Where is the outrage? We heard about George Floyd to the point of nausea. But not one word in the mainstream media defending these women, one of whom was a veteran. They deserved to be killed for participating in an “insurrection.”
I watched an interview yesterday on Daystar with Dr. Simone Gold. She was there on January 6th, not to protest the election, but to talk about COVID and medical abuse. Frontline Doctors had a permit to address the crowd on the east side of the Capitol. (The violence occurred mostly on the west side, much of it violence by the police against the crowd.)
When her group got to the site, the police cancelled the permit. She was in a dense crowd and essentially got swept along into the Capitol where she began to give her talk to the people around her. She saw no violence on the east side of the Capitol and did not engage in any violent actions herself, but ended up with a swat team at her door, handcuffed and shackled. She’s a lawyer and pointed out how different this is from the norm when dealing with a person with no criminal record and at their home. It’s never been done before!
Among the charges she faced was one that carried the possibility of 20 years behind bars, so she accepted a plea bargain for a misdemeanor and was given a sentence of 60 days. It’s clear from her testimony and the video evidence that she did nothing wrong. In the documentary video several men are interviewed who are being pressured to take plea bargains admitting to things they didn’t do. It’s all about “proving” the protesters committed crimes to justify the draconian government assault on their rights.
Note the difference once again between the treatment of the January 6th protest and the months long burning, looting, and killing by Leftist thugs enabled by the government. Did any of these real insurrectionists have swat teams with drawn guns pounding at their doors? I challenge you to find ONE!
What’s happening in this country is horrifying! We are living in a police state where anyone who disagrees with the powers that be may find FBI agents with drawn guns banging on the door. At the same time, like the Communists, they use infiltrated mobs to incite violence. We still don’t know how many government agents were in the crowd urging illegal activity. We do know that the FBI has done it before. Remember Randy Weaver and Ruby Ridge! Now it’s the pillow guy, Mike Lindell.
The violations of civil rights at this point are legion and egregious. When a single party runs both the Executive and Legislative branches your Constitution isn’t worth the paper it’s printed on as Antonin Scalia testified to a Congressional hearing.
And it continues with many January 6th detainees still in prison after almost two years. If these were members of your family, how would you feel?
I’m not going to be here much longer but my children and grandchildren will be. What will be left for them? If you’re a parent, you better be thinking about it. Your children are already suffering with body and soul-destroying ideas being preached in the classroom. It will only get worse unless we stop it. Are you doing anything? One thing you can do, even if you homeschool, is fight for moral candidates on local school boards. Do nothing and you have no one but yourself to blame for the horrors still to come!

850 more unvaxxed NYC teachers, aides fired for not complying with mandate
The city Department of Education has axed another 850 teachers and classroom aides — bringing the total to nearly 2,000 school employees fired for failure to comply with a vaccine mandate increasingly struck down in court.
About 1,300 DOE employees who took a year’s unpaid leave — with benefits — agreed to show proof of COVID vaccination by Sept. 5 or be “deemed to have voluntarily resigned.”
Of those staffers, 450 got a shot by the deadline and “are returning to their prior schools or work locations,” DOE officials told The Post. They include some 225 teachers and 135 paraprofessionals.
The 850 let go makes roughly 1,950 DOE staffers terminated since the vaccine mandate took effect on Oct. 29, 2021.
Rachelle Garcia, an elementary school teacher in Brooklyn for 15 years and mother of two, worked fully in person during the pandemic and never got sick, she said.
But she refused to get vaccinated, finally taking leave after the DOE denied her requests for a religious exemption…
